The focus of my current research is the transformation of values in the eighteenth-century medical community in the Russian empire and their manifestations during physicians’ activities and interactions within each other and laymen. My work explores the social and cultural norms that informed the interaction between doctors and people who voluntarily approached them seeking treatment. I am interested in how the changing values of an increasingly professionalized group competed for status and recognition and provoked clashes or synced with the norms prevailing in society.
